In January, 2025, Santi was talking on the phone in his car around 9pm in Wilton Manor Fl. He saw a group of teenagers walking by and leaving 5 minutes later. When he got out of the car and he was in the process of unloading the groceries, his neighbor told him that the group of teenagers had left a husky tied to a pole in the backyard of the vacant home across the street. He dropped the bags, lost his car keys, ran across the street, and while using his iPhone flashlight he saw this gorgeous, young, adorable husky. He untied him, hugged him, and went home across the street to take some photos and post them on Facebook’s local husky lost/found pets.
He took him to the vet the following morning: he was chipped but he had never been registered to an owner! Nobody claimed him! He was in good health, but skinny. He was supposed to foster him, He tried finding a good home for him, or a sanctuary, and that’s when he found out that there are too many abandoned huskies, and no one had more room to take care of an additional dog. He now became, a failed foster caregiver but a very happy parent of this beautiful husky Fred.
He made the choice to neuter him: after seeing how many huskies are abandoned and end up euthanized, it was an eye opening experience, and he must make sure that he closed the adoption/abandonment cycle. He has been so lucky with Fred, he is the most loving and caring – yet independent and stubborn – Husky. He understands that not everyone is prepared to walk 6 miles daily, and take care of a true life companion. But they are worth it, but you must put in the effort. He has zero regrets and we thank the universe for placing Fred in his path. He changed his life!
He is currently being trained to be Santi’s service dog through a specialist in huskies, Rolleen Margerum founder of Repawz Academy. Check them out at http://repawzacademy.org. Send me a message if you know a disabled veteran, autistic child or survivor of domestic abuse that needs a hand, RePawz gives them a paw.
